Heat Reflecting Render
We have begun to apply the external finishes to our luxury eco-home. The facades will be treated with a combination of painted fir timber cladding and render, but not any old render. You can see from the photos that on some elevations we are using black render which is usually very hard to achieve as the darker the colour of render the less light is reflected and therefore during summer months render absorbs too much heat which is also transferred to the substrate behind, causing stability and performance issues. For this project we are using a patented render from JUB systems which has been developed with the ability to reflect the infrared part of the light spectrum and by doing so can have a 40% higher Total Solar Reflectance meaning the surface will not warm up as much. The system can reduce the surface temperature of the render by 15 degrees Celsius, so there are no more barriers to using dark renders.
